The Steps To Take For Dental Emergencies

My name is Kara Simmons and when my four-year old son fell and knocked out his front tooth, I was terrified. I quickly drove my son to the dental office so the dentist could treat my son. When we returned home, I began thinking about dental emergencies and what I needed to do if something ever happened again. I felt that if I was informed, then a dental emergency wouldn't be as frightening. I spent days doing research and I even spoke to my dentist about common types of dental emergencies. I wrote everything down so that I could refer to my notes when needed. I want to help other people learn about dental emergencies and the steps they should take. Although I don't wish a dental emergency on anyone, I do hope that if needed, my blog will be of help.

3 Reasons To Get Ceramic Crowns For Your Teeth

If you have a damaged tooth, your dentist may suggest that you have to have a crown put over it. A crown is basically a cover that looks like a tooth that gets set over the damaged tooth and replaces it. The crowns can be made out of a number of materials, including metal, but dental ceramics are one of the more common choices to have crowns made out of. There are a lot of reasons why dental ceramic gets used so often for crowns.

Tintability

One reason for using dental ceramic is that it is very easy to tint. That fact makes it really easy for the dentist to match the crown to your existing tooth color. It would be really distracting to have a crown placed over your tooth and have it be the wrong color. That would also kind of defeat the purpose, because you really don't want anyone to know that you have had this crown put on your tooth. You just want to have your tooth replaced so that you aren't dealing with the damage and any pain that comes from that damage.

Durability

Another reason that dental ceramics are so common when it comes to creating crowns is that it is fairly durable. That durability means that you are going to be able to use the crown just like you would use your own teeth. It also means that you are going to be able to have the crown for a long time with little risk of damage. Since getting a crown is a process, you don't want to have to undergo that process again unless you really have to. You can get up to 15 years of use out of your new ceramic crown.

Lack of Damage to Other Teeth

Another reason to use dental ceramic for your crown is that the ceramic isn't going to cause damage to the teeth that are around the tooth where the crown is. That is a risk with some of the other materials that crowns can be made up because they are slightly more abrasive, and that abrasion can wear down the teeth around the crown.

If you need to have a crown put on your teeth, you want to make sure that you are getting the best material for you. You should talk to your dentist about getting a ceramic crown restoration or your damaged tooth.
