The Steps To Take For Dental Emergencies

My name is Kara Simmons and when my four-year old son fell and knocked out his front tooth, I was terrified. I quickly drove my son to the dental office so the dentist could treat my son. When we returned home, I began thinking about dental emergencies and what I needed to do if something ever happened again. I felt that if I was informed, then a dental emergency wouldn't be as frightening. I spent days doing research and I even spoke to my dentist about common types of dental emergencies. I wrote everything down so that I could refer to my notes when needed. I want to help other people learn about dental emergencies and the steps they should take. Although I don't wish a dental emergency on anyone, I do hope that if needed, my blog will be of help.

3 Key Differences Between Traditional Dentistry And Holistic Dentistry

Are you the type of person who seeks natural treatments and remedies for health issues? If so, you might be interested in learning about holistic dentistry. Holistic dentistry is an alternative to traditional dentistry, and it goes by many names. Many people call it alternative dentistry or unconventional dentistry. This dentistry is quite different than the traditional methods, and here are three key differences to understand.

1. It Focuses on Entire Health Instead of Oral Health Only

The first difference is the focus. A traditional dentist focuses primarily on a person's oral health. As a result, the procedures and treatments offered help the person's oral health only. They are not designed to help a person's entire body. A holistic dentist focuses on a person's entire health and wellbeing. Holistic dentists connect the correlations between a person's general health and oral health. Their goal is to treat the entire body, not just the mouth. As a result, the treatment offered by a holistic dentist might be different than that offered by a general dentist.

2. It Involves Natural Treatments Instead of Medication

The next difference to understand is the treatments offered by a traditional dentist versus a holistic dentist. Traditional dentists offer fluoride treatments, for example. This treatment is not something a holistic dentist will likely offer. Fluoride has potential risks and side effects, and holistic dentistry avoids using products with those types of risks. Instead, they use natural treatment options. For example, a holistic dentist is unlikely to suggest using over-the-counter mouthwash. Instead, they might give you a recipe to make your own mouthwash out of natural products.

3. It Does Not Offer Many Traditional Procedures

The third difference is the procedures each dentist offers. For example, a traditional dentist might recommend a root canal when you have infected tooth roots. A holistic dentist would probably not recommend a root canal. They will offer a different solution to help solve the issue. Holistic dentists also use different materials for cavities and other oral health problems. They aim to offer natural remedies whenever possible instead of using manmade products and solutions to treat dental issues.
